If you are aged 16+, in employment and interested in starting an Apprenticeship, or Advanced Apprenticeship in Horse Care, then this page is for you.

The current Apprenticeship is under review and has therefore not been transferred to the QCF (Qualifications & Credit Framework) as yet.
When it becomes a QCF qualification, the qualification will be either, the Award, Certificate or Diploma in Work Based Horse Care.
To obtain your level 2 qualification, you will need to achieve the following:
| Component | Level |
|---|---|
| A Technical Certificate | Level 2 Technical Certificate in Health and Safety for those working in the Equine Industry. |
| Key Skills or Functional Skills | Key Skills Level 1 in Application of Number, Communication and Working with Others |
| Employment responsibilities and rights | Emergency First Aid. |
Apprentices must be employed in the industry and work a minimum of 16 hours per week in order to qualify for funding.
In order to achieve the Advanced Apprenticeship, the student must complete the following components:

| Knowledge based units | NVQ Level 3 in Horse Care. |
| A Technical Certificate | A Technical Certificate at level 3 |
| Key Skills or Functional Skills | Key Skills level 2 in Application of Number, Working With Others and Communication. |
| Employment responsibilities and rights | Emergency First Aid (if not already achieved or if out of date) |
Advanced Apprentices must be employed and working a minimum of 16 hours per week in order to qualify for funding.
Jobs in Horse Care at Apprenticeship level
At level two or Apprenticeship level you would be able to undertake any of the following jobs:
- Stable Hand
- Stud Assistant.
- Groom
- Trek Assistant
Jobs in Horse Care for Advanced Apprentices
- Assistant Yard manager
- Horse Riding Assistant Instructor
- Performance Groom
- Jockey
- Trek Leader
- Horse dealer
Starting salary once qualified will usually be the National Minimum wage for your age group up to £18.000 per year.
