Business & Administration is about being organised, communicating effectively, teamwork and getting things done. All organisations, both public and private sector, need enthusiastic and motivated people at all levels.

Often companies prefer to promote internally than recruit from outside so this can be a great route to advancement.

The level 2 Apprenticeship will give you the necessary skills to carry out the activities expected of you – with some guidance and supervision.  You will be expected to know and understand both the practical and theoretical aspects of the work.

Generally the work is office-based and increasingly involves computers.  Usual office activities include:  typing, emailing, arranging meetings, making phone calls, and producing documents.  There is a demand for these skills in almost all parts of an organisation.  You could become, for example, a Legal Secretary, an Events manager, a Project Manager or an Office Manager. 

To obtain your level 2 qualification, you will need to achieve the following:

 

Component Level
Knowledge based units A Level 2 Certificate in Business and Administration. You will need to complete core skills and optional units to the value of 21 credits (9 credits from 4 mandatory unts and 12 credits from optional units)
A Technical Certificate A Technical Certificate at level 2
Key Skills or Functional Skills Key Skills at level 1

An Advanced Apprenticeship can follow on from an Apprenticeship qualification. See Student 16+

The Level 3 Apprenticeship will  give you detailed knowledge and the necessary skills to work independently and possibly to supervise and train others.

You will be expected to know and understand both the practical and theoretical aspects of the work. 

For this qualification, You will need to achieve the following:
 

Component Level
Knowledge based units A Level 3 Business and Administration. You will need to complete core skills and optional units to the value of 40 credits (13 credits from 4 mandatory units and 27 credits from optional units)
A Technical Certificate A Technical Certificate at Level 3
Key Skills or Functional Skills A Key Skills Communication Unit at level 2 and the Application of Number at Level 2
Employment responsibilities and rights Employment Responsibilities and Rights targets

An Advanced Apprenticeship qualification can  lead to an HNC, HND or Degree-level qualifications.   See Student 16+

Senior Managers can earn very high salaries. 

  • Starting salaries range from about £14,000 to £18,000 but there many opportunities for promotion
  • A Secretary might earn up to £20,000
  • Whilst an Office Manager might earn £20,000 to £30,000.
